Can I find true love with a list?
Often women tell me they know exactly what they want in a man
and won’t settle for anything less to find true love. They’ve written out a list of qualities that they must have and sometimes include things they don’t want—the absolute deal breakers. In my opinion, making a list of qualities you want in a man is like making a grocery shopping list without having a recipe for what you want to cook. Let’s see, I’ll buy onions, pickles, tomato sauce, chocolate chips, eggs, Tabasco, and cottage cheese. I like all of those foods, BUT if I threw them all together in a pan and baked it in the oven, I doubt anyone would want to eat it! Let me clarify what I’m saying with the following examples of a good man-list gone bad when it comes to the relationship recipe. (more…)

…Tremble with me
in paralyzing pauses.

Ah, romance, how we love it—hate it—crave it—resist it—long for it—deny it. We’ve just passed one of single women’s least celebrated days. Red hearts are displayed in every store, along with sentimental Valentine’s poems, cards with schmaltzy love poetry and the musical theme from the tear-jerker movie Love Story, or worse yet An Affair to Remember. Is this the only way to find true love?
Remember the song Free Falling by Tom Petty? This song can be interpreted in so many ways,
everything from he’s happy to be free from a woman he just broke up with, to the other extreme that he’s addicted to drugs and leaves her because she’s a good girl he doesn’t deserve. He has his freedom, but he feels like he’s free falling from a drug high to the ground. Sounds like a very scary thing, like jumping out of an airplane with no parachute. Hear it sung by John Mayer here. http://budurl.com/freefall (more…)

You’d be surprised how your feelings and expectations around this topic can affect your attitude while dating. It’s one of those topics that’s often suppressed as a low priority until you actually meet someone and plan to tie the knot.
However, your attitude about what’s yours is yours and his is his –or not—plays a key part in how you think and behave while dating or in a relationship. Here are a few examples: (more…)

I really want to find my soulmate
I just finished reading Patty Stanger’s book called Become Your Own Matchmaker.
Stanger is best known as the Millionaire Matchmaker with a popular television show by that name. While her TV persona is somewhat brazen and raunchy, she comes off more empathetic and kinder in her book. I think she’s pretty sharp and gives great advice to women who come to her with the recurrent request to help me find my soulmate.
Stanger has good suggestions for places to seek out the coveted soulmate,
some of which are highlighted below. I can only give you part of the list without her permission. (more…)
